you need to know what kind of bullet for one (FMJ?) then you also need to know it's velocity and distance away from the armour. Knowing the weight of the bullet would be necessary as well.
The problem with answering this question is, that it may be giving away information to those countries and groups who are unfriendly to the US.
If they knew exactly how thick the hulls of US subs were, and how strong (or weak?) the welds were, then they could make explosive mines and such capable of damaging or sinking those subs.
There is an old axiom from a century (or more) ago for shipyard workers: "Loose lips, sink ships". That is still true today.

This may sound odd, but if there was a storage shed over the area for a while, you may want to check the soil- you can get a kit in wal-mart or a DYI home store like Home Depot, if you want the full blown analysis there are companies that do soil and water testing, it would likely cost a few hundred dollars. You may want to look at a Hardiness Zone Map for your area-you can see one at USDA Hardiness Zones, The National Gardening Association, You can get a great deal of information at Burpee.com, Burpee is a huge seed company, they have been around forever. They started the DelVal College of Agriculture in Doylestown PA. The Annual Farmers Almanac is very helpful (and I think you'll find it very entertaining as well).
