I usually use bypass pruners, and I want a nice pair around $20 to $30. For general garden pruners - roses, shrubs, etc. Please tell me the brand and where you buy them. Thanks!

Corona bypass pruners - found at most hardware garden centers or on line. Easy to maintain/sharpen (bastard file available at same hardware stores.)

Here is a video to show you how to sharpen them. or look in the yellow pages for somone that sharpens them. If they are in good shap not falling apart aor loose I would sharpen them. Were do you live?

Pruning is actually shaping a plant/bush by cutting branches, and is best done with pruning shears (unless you have gorilla hands

Pruning shears are designed to give you more leverage, so you dont have to squeeze as hard.
Cutting dead flowers off is not what I would consider pruning, but you can certainly do that with a pair of heavy scissors.
