Diane asked:
I’m curious to get some opinions of which company makes the better ergonomic hand tools? SK or KD?
Both are made in the USA
Has anyone had any experience with any of these brands?
Reply:
I’ve been turning wrenches for 50 yrs. No one company has a lock on all tools, I prefer SK socket sets but Craftsman wrenches. Stanley has the best screwdrivers. Mostly its personal preference. What feels best when working with them. Stick with a name brand- buy the best quality you can afford since the average joe will never wear out a tool. Mine have been lost, stolen, borrowed & not returned, broken by abuse but the only thing I ever wore out was air powered ergonomic hand tools.

Kelly Asked:
What size or kind of sharpening hand tool do I need for a hand saw? and other such tools
Reply:
A hand saw is usually sharpened with a file, but it an exacting job. As the saw cuts on both the forward and back strokes, teeth are sharpened on both sides, (front facing and rear facing), and are offset alternately left and right of center, (called ’setting’). You could do it yourself with a fine cut triangular file, or a specific saw docoring file, but for best results, it’s better to have it sharpening hand tools professionally.

Jonathan Asked:
Best way to keep your gardens tools from rusting? I’ve heard about using a bucket of sand and motor oil, but that sounds like creating toxic waste to me.
Reply:
Keeping them clean and using WD 40 or mineral oil even vegetable oil. Even using vegetable oil in the sand bucket is good. Just make sure to remove the heavy part of the dirt before putting them in the bucket and then push them up and down to remove the rest. If you have a lot of rust use white vinegar to help remove the rust or even steel wool.
For wooden handles always use linseed oil. Once a year or twice sand the handle to smooth and soak it good with linseed oil.
If you have fiber glass handles just wash with soap and water and dry.

Brian Asked:
For those of you that has power hand tools you should do a search for “Recalls of power tools” if you have never done this before you will be shocked.
Reply:
NOT SHOCKED!!
Every thing man has ever made was on a trial and error basis.
Once in mass production it is not surprising that all the bugs have not been ‘worked’ out!
This is the reason manufacturers offer warranties.
“BRILLIANT”!!!!

Money not too much an option. I want something fairly “powerful”.

Can you lead me towards a good ones?

I have a battery operated radio with Rechargeable batteries. I listen to this while the wife pushes the mower around the lawn and then does the weeding by cordless garden tools. She also trims the hedge with the shears before she cooks my dinner.
